First Cohort of I4Opportunities project

In June 2018, we started I4Opportunities, a project designed to equip students with a knowledge of using both Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Internet to explore different opportunities around them so to come up with solutions that the society needs. We started working in Group Scolaire Mukamira which is located in Western Province of Rwanda, Nyabihu District, one of the most remote places in Rwanda. A first cohort of 35 students was able to participate in a 3 month training that was conducted by Software Engineers from RwandOpp.  The target now is to reach even more young people in schools on one hand, but also reach uneducated youth from the rural area on the other hand.

Our first cohort of 35 young people graduated on Sunday 28th October, and the event took place at our office located in Nyabihu District (Nyabihu Youth Center). I4Opportunities Graduation ceremony was attended by a good number of youth from the district, leaders from the school we worked with and I4Opportunities Alumni for a cerebration of the achievements and skills learnt.

We will strive to keep linking our alumni to different organizations that might offer them opportunities to put their skills to use.  At the top of that, we selected 4 best performing alumni, who are going to keep on working with RwandOpp in future projects. We are all very excited for these young people and their future achievements!

At RwandOpp, we are very thankful for everyone who contributed on this program’s cohort to become a success.
