Green Saves project impacts

Development impact

With the harvest the camp’s occupants were getting from the kitchen gardens, their nutrition were being enriched thus fighting against malnutrition.

Each family was able to get many cups of vegetables each week but at most in a month time, the production was from 3-4 cups in a week.

Also the way of thinking about future and hope of living a better life has been developed, with all the lessons that we had the pleasure to share with them.

Our beneficiaries attending education session

This is visible through the questionnaire survey we conducted, where we had a question asking “How would you rate the hope of a better future increase since the project came?” and 91% of the beneficiaries rated from 3-4/5.

Green Saves project was inspired others to take action

When we started the project, we seemed to be alone. But as the project went on, other people started joining in, mainly other fellow ICS Alumni, that we nearly had visitors every weekend who really appreciated and were inspired by what we did.

A good example of inspiration is one of Yvette ISIMBI, who, with the visit she made to the project, she went home and decided to start her own mini-agriculture of vegetable back at her home. Others were also inspired and showed that through starting their own project as well.

Self-help groups

Self-Help groups are another impact to the camp. The self-help groups saving were keeping on increasing each and every day. At that moment, the minimum capital of each saving group was at 8000 Rwandan francs, which was increasing as time went, the statistics showed that it was increasing by 1000 each week which was the minimum.
