Rwanda Opportunities (RwandOpp) is a nonprofit youth organization with a mission of transforming the lives of rural communities in Rwanda through youth engagement.
We are a registered NGO in Rwanda dedicated to empowering the youth. Our team consists of bold social innovators committed to helping Rwandan youth become makers and leaders. We provide them with the tools, knowledge, and networks needed to create opportunities and transform their communities successfully. By partnering with young people and their communities, we aim to help them reach their full potential, encouraging them to take initiative and support those in need.
The Rwanda Opportunities (RwandOpp) Organization was established in 2018 by founders inspired by their experience with the International Citizen Services (ICS) program, which they participated in as volunteers from 2014 to 2015. Following this program, they initiated the Green Saves Project.
The Green Saves Project, funded by the ICS and Tearfund in 2015, took place in the Bweramvura Refugee Camp, which housed Rwandese returnees from Tanzania. The project aimed to improve the nutrition of the beneficiaries by teaching them how to create small kitchen gardens. Additionally, it provided financial education, helping participants form small saving groups that enabled them to access loans and improve their financial situations. The program also covered family planning, teamwork, and other related topics.
At the core of this project was the goal of building relationships with the beneficiaries and helping them regain hope for a better life. More information about this project can be found HERE.
After the ICS program and the Green Saves Project, our founders attended the University of Rwanda, where they engaged in various initiatives. They later developed the idea for an online platform to share a wide range of opportunities, including jobs, training, workshops, events, scholarships, and more. This platform was named “RwandOpp” (Rwanda Opportunities). It functioned as both a web-based and mobile application, notifying users about different opportunities available to them.
RwandOpp also served as the founders’ final-year project during their graduation from the University of Rwanda with degrees in Computer and Software Engineering.
In 2018, they transformed the platform into a non-governmental organization (NGO), named Rwanda Opportunities Organization (RwandOpp), with the mission of helping youth in rural communities in Rwanda gain equal access to opportunities, similar to those available to youth in urban areas. They began their efforts in Nyabihu District and hope to extend their reach to many other districts in the future.
